Frankincense (D) Essential Oil - 10 ml
Frankincense (D) Essential Oil - 10 ml
Derived through steam distillation from the resin of the Boswellia carterii tree, also known as Olibanum, belongs to the Burseraceae family. The name "Frankincense" is rooted in the French word "franc," meaning luxuriant, and, along with myrrh, it was the first gum used as incense. Indigenous to the Middle East, the tree grows in natural bonsai formation in arid lands and symbolizes divinity.
Renowned for its calming properties, Frankincense Essential Oil is a popular choice in aromatherapy. It is believed to aid in wound healing, scar prevention, facial toning, wrinkle reduction, and stretch mark avoidance in cosmetic applications. The oil is associated with easing anxiety, stress, asthma, bronchitis, laryngitis, and persistent coughs. Additionally, it serves as a uterine tonic, providing a calming effect during labor and alleviating heavy menstruation. Frankincense oil finds particular utility in meditation, although it should be avoided during pregnancy.
Ancient Egyptians considered Frankincense sacred and burned it as holy incense. They used the burnt resin as kohl, a powder to highlight the eyes, creating the iconic kohl-lined eyes often depicted in Egyptian art. The earliest recorded use of Frankincense dates back to the 15th century BC in the tomb inscription of Egyptian Queen Hatshepsut, where it was employed to fumigate the sick and banish evil spirits.
